Who

My name is Allyson and I am an artist.  I’ve been making art for as long as I can remember, but my more serious work started in high school.  As a college student at SUNY New Paltz I studied art education and minored in art history.

I’m mostly a drawing and painting type, but I’m always open to finding new mediums to play with.  I usually paint with acrylics or oils, but it depends on the project.  I  love to use pastels and charcoal, but my current work environment lacks proper ventilation restricting me to mostly pencil drawings.  I frequently edit my drawings in Adobe Photoshop, but I much prefer to add color by hand.  Although I have had a very basic knowledge of knitting and crocheting for quite some time, I have only recently been creating and completing knit projects.  I am a largely self-taught seamstress and I occasionally sew interesting things including Halloween costumes, a backpack and a water bottle cozy.  I am also interested in baking and hope to learn more about cake decorating.

Aside from being an artist I would also call myself a nerd.  In the past some of my more esoteric interests have found their way into my art.  You can expect to see more of these influences if you follow my blog.  Some of these interests that have already been seen in my art include: Portal, The Cthulhu Mythos, World of Warcraft, The Sandman Series by Neil Gaiman, and Tabletop Role-playing.  As far as what is to come, here are some other possible influences: Dune by Frank Herbert (really the whole series), Star Wars, Space, Battlestar Galactica, Classical Mythology, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, He-man, She-Ra, Jem and the Holograms, Harry Potter, Diablo 2, and I’m sure there’s more!
